In Singapore, a variety of private schools offer a broad range of programmes, adding diversity to the country’s education landscape. There are approximately 300 private commercial, IT, fine arts and language schools in Singapore. These Private Education Institutions (PEIs) offer courses with strong demand from local and international students. PEIs offer various courses at the certificate, diploma, bachelor and postgraduate level. Through partnerships with popular international universities from the US, UK, Australia etc, PEIs offer students the opportunity to attain international certification in a safe and affordable environment. Each PEI conducts its own admission/enrolment exercises and interested students should make enquiries with the schools concerned directly. When choosing a PEI, you should ensure that the school meets your expectations in the following areas:
- Courses offered
- Recognition of certification attained
- School facilities (classrooms, computer facilities etc)
- International student services (accommodation and visa facilitation, student orientation, student counselling etc)
To ensure that the PEIs in Singapore safeguard students' interests and welfare through high quality regulatory standards and also sound business practices, the Council for Private Education (CPE), a statutory board under the purview of the Ministry of Education, has been set up to handle all issues pertaining to the private education sector in Singapore. All Private Education Institutions that intend to enrol international students are required to have an EduTrust certification.
